Itinerary
DAY 1 - CHENNAI
First Day of this tour commences from Kapaleeshwarar Temple, a temple of Shiva located in Mylapore, Chennai in the south of India. Shiva is worshiped as Kapaleeshwarar, and his consort Parvati is depicted as Karpagambal. After this great and gigantic temple, the next stop is at Arupadai Veedu Temple i.e. Six Abodes of Shiva which is followed by a visit to Vadapalani Andavar Temple. Also known as, Vadapalani Murugan Temple, it is a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Murugan. This temple has an amazing history of being built initially as a simple thatched shed.
DAY 2 - CHENNAI – TIRUTHANI – KUMBAKONAM (SWAMIMALAI)
After a devoted night of sleep, the second day directly starts from the fifth abode of Lord Murugan i.e. Subramanya Swamy temple. Tiruthani comprises one of the six Padai Veedu shrines of Lord Subramanya. Tiruthani is known for the valor and spirit shown by Subramanya after vanquishing the demon Surapadam. This place is a witness of an auspicious and sacred wedding ritual of Subramanya and Valli. The next stop is Swaminatha Swamy Temple located in Swamimalai dedicated to lord Murugan, 5 km from Kumbakonam. One of the six abodes of Murugan, this temple got its identity when Murugan, praised enthusiastically the meaning of the Pranava Mantra(Aum Mantra) to his father Shiva at the same place.
DAY 3 - KUMBAKONAM – PALANI – MADURAI
After a historic day of traveling, the early mornings start with Palani Murugan Temple also known as Arulmigu Dhandayuthapani Swamy Temple, the next stop which is one of the six abodes of Lord Murugan. 38 sub-temples are found within this temple premises and it belongs to 9th century. You can enjoy the day tour and have leisure time for your shopping and other activities.
DAY 4 - MADURAI
The fourth day starts with zeal as we head on to one of the six abodes of Murugan, Tirupparankunram Murugan Temple, located at Tirupparankunram. According to the legend, this is the temple where Murugan married Devayanai, the daughter of Lord Indra. This temple is also a mark of the holy place of the sun and moon’s compliance. We also cover Pazhamudircholai Murugan Temple which is at the north of Madurai, on the top of a hill. One of the six important abodes of Lord Murugan, it is near to the Vishnu Temple of Azhagar Kovil. Pazhamudircholai was not the actual temple for the main deity, Azhagar Kovil was. The deity was later relocated to Pazhamudircholai which has continued to be the temple for the main deity till date. The Ettuthokai, the Silappathikaram and the Pattupattu, are some of the old Tamil literature forms which praise Murugan at Pazhamudircholai.
DAY 5 - MADURAI - THIRUCHENDHUR - MADURAI
After the eventful days of the planned tour, we reach the penultimate day where we cover Thiruchendur Murugan Temple which is the only one among the six sacred temple complexes to be situated near the sea shore i.e. on the shores of Bay of Bengal. This temple being ISO certified is one of the largest and most visited temple complexes in India. Being the largest, your entire day goes well-utilized studying the minimal architecture of one of six abodes of Lord Murugan.
DAY 6 - MADURAI DEPARTURE
